Advancing Private Sector Engagement in MENA

The Nordic Agency for Sustainable Impact has since 2021 been working on several research and development projects with the GIZ, the Alliance for Water Stewardship and others engaging businesses at scale in sustainable development topics, specifically in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA ) region.

Currently, the Nordic Agency is conducting an analysis of the potential of German government-supported mechanisms as deployed by GIZ programmes and projects across the region, designing an accelerator for private sector engagement activities across topics related to water, energy, waste, and food security.

This work builds on other work we’ve conducted with GIZ – including the co-development of the GIZ MENA Business Forum, the translation of the Alliance for Water Stewardship materials to Arabic, and conducting several training activities for local programmes and partners.

Similarily, our work to advance “water stewardship” has put forward the first water and environmental impact analysis of the textile and apparel industry across Africa, published by Water Witness International with support from the Swiss Development Cooperation agency and in collaboration with the Alliance for Water Stewardship.

Our experts have also contributed to advancing water stewardship in the global water agenda during 2017-2020 having been part of the Scientific Programme Committee of the Stockholm World Water Week with responsibility for water and business.

We provide expert advice and input to various international processes related to water stewardship, for example, we contributed to the Carbon Disclosure Standards Board Water Guidance.
